Wholly Devoted: Deuteronomy 6

Look closely at verses 4 through 9. God told his people to love him with all their heart, soul and strength. In other

words, he told them to follow him wholeheartedly. He also instructed parents to impress God’s Word on their own

hearts and on the hearts of their children.

Many people have modeled for me wholehearted devotion to God. Here are the names of some of those men and

women and what they did to impress God’s Word on my heart…

Devotional Thought

What an interesting juxtaposition we see in the readings today – Numbers 34 with its division of land among those entering the promised land and John 16 with the Lord essentially telling his disciples there really is no promised land on this side of eternity.

The lesson for you and me today?  The same lesson that has been true starting in the garden and proceeding through all of man’s history – peace is never found in a place, but rather, only ever in a Person!  Thank you, Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace!

Jesus asked, “Do you finally believe?  But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when you will be scattered, each one going his own way, leaving me alone. Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me.  I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world” (John 16:31-33).

In His Grip,

Pastor Beau

Prayer focus

This month, we have blogged several things about fasting.  We talked about fasting because we love God rather than because it is our duty to join the corporate fast.  We talked about being careful with our words while we fast.  We also talked about the importance of reading the Word of God when we fast.  Today, let’s focus on electronics.  There are so many aspects of electronics.  Most of us use it in some fashion— whether we watch TV, go on the Internet/Facebook, or text.  Let us devote ourselves to God today not only by giving up food, but also by repurposing time we normally spend on “social” uses of electronics.  Let us pray instead.  When we fast today, let’s not seek our own pleasures but seek to please God.  Have a blessed day today.

Update on Robinson family

Thank you for the generous response to the needs of the Robinson family.  Through personal and church donations, we have been able to provide them with clothing, personal care supplies and groceries.  Currently, they are negotiating with their apartment complex and insurance company to secure permanent housing and reimbursement for lost goods.  Your prayer and continued support are appreciated.  Charitable gifts may be submitted to Trinity Chapel for our general benevolence fund, which helps TC respond to immediate needs such as this one, or gifts may be designated specifically for the Robinson family.  Sam, Faith and the children are doing well and are grateful for the support of their church family.

Pilgrims

There’s a better day a comin’
We’re not home yet

VERSE 1
This old world is filled with disappointments and trouble every day
Many times I get discouraged and I almost lose my way
Then I remember I’m just a pilgrim, in this troubled world below
That’s the reason I keep singing as I go

CHORUS
We’re not home yet children
So keep your eyes on the savior
Just a few more days to labor
And we’ll sit down beside the river
How we long to be with Jesus
And our loved ones gone before us
There’s a better day a comin’
We’re not home yet

VERSE 2
There’s a land filled with milk and honey, just waiting for me
Someday Jesus will come and take me over that sea
Then I must keep watching and waiting
In this troubled world below
There’s one thought that keeps me singing as I go
Singing as I go

CHORUS

Well
