Devotional Thought

Today’s reading in 1 Chronicles chapter two contains the lineage of Israel’s (formerly Jacob’s) son, Judah.  Judah is likely listed first among Israel’s sons because historically God’s plan to save a people for relationship with Him revolves around the tribe of Judah – particularly through David’s descendants (as seen in chapter 3) and culminating in Jesus Christ.  All this family history reading reminds us that everybody has a legacy.  We must be intentional in crafting ours!  How’s the stream of Jesus Christ’s redemptive power flowing through your family?  If you have been redeemed, then the anointed ministry Jesus references in Luke chapter 4 continues in you:

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor”  (Luke 4:18-19).
