Watching and Waiting: Luke 15:11-32

A son left home, ran to a faraway country and wasted his fortune. During this time, his father patiently

waited. When the son finally came to his senses and returned, his father ran to him with open arms

and then threw him a party. Jesus told this story to illustrate the love our heavenly Father has for

His wayward, earthly children. God, too, waits for us with outstretched arms.

 

Like the lost son, I discovered myself wandering  from God…

God Alone:  Psalm 62

Psalm 62 contains the psalmist’s musings on lessons learned in life. He describes two lifestyles:

One lifestyle is the “God alone” lifestyle – trusting solely in God’s strength (verses 1-2, 5-8, 11-12).

David remembered when he trusted in God alone – as a shepherd guarding his sheep, as a young

man fighting Goliath, as the king of Israel governing a nation. God alone was his strength, his rock

and his salvation. The second lifestyle is the “God and…” lifestyle – trusting in oneself, in other

people, possessions and so forth (verses 3-4, 9-10). Not a good choice.

 

Like David, at times I have trusted in God alone. Here’s what happened:­­­­­­­­­­­­­
