Baptism is a picture of how our acceptance of Christ as our Savior has caused us to take on His characteristics. We are “buried” with him in baptism, and “raised” to a new life in Him. Down with the old… up with the new. Baptism is a symbol of our salvation. It shows a good conscience toward God. It unifies us as believers, confirming that we belong together. If he said baptism is important, then it is important.
